HACKTIVISTS NEEDED - Volunteers needed for Girls Hackathon
17.09.2014 18:59
Dear San Diego Community Members,
California State University, San Marcos (CSUSM) will be participating again in the International Women’s Hackathon on Oct 11, 2014!
The International Women’s Hackathon is sponsored by Microsoft Research to empower young women leaders in computer science. The event is open to all female students, ages 16 and older. Teams of 4 – 6 girls will make a website, game, cloud based service, application, or mobile app to address one of the two challenges: Disaster Response or Climate Data.
WE NEED YOUR HELP! Please join us to encourage critical computer programming and STEM skills in our future women leaders.
- Not just for women: Volunteering for this event is open to men too! As we educate women, encourage their skills, confidence and enlighten them to greater economic positions in society, we need your help. Many of you have daughters, nieces and loved ones that you want to see succeed. Let’s join together.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
WE NEED GREAT MINDS TO PULL OFF A GREAT EVENT!!
Be a Mentor: We hope to have one experienced software professional as a mentor for each team of girls to help them succeed in creating their application for the challenge.
Be a Judge: We are looking for a panel of experts to evaluate student projects and select the winning team.
Be a Volunteer: We know your time is valuable and we will respect it! If you can offer a little time or a lot, please join the planning committee. All are welcome! Thank you.
Be a Sponsor: We appreciate the support from San Diego businesses, NPOs, and individuals. This is a great opportunity to position your company as one who is helping to build the next generation of (women) engineers! Please contact Shauna Ruyle for further information.
